Ten Good Reasons to use SEN Diary

1. Reduce stress on Senco:
You can efficiently keep well-structured notes on the SEN Pupils
Produce well-focused reports which will be of much benefit to all concerned
2. Totally owned by the Senco running on his/her own PC:
Totally portable (if installed on a lap-top computer)
No need to access other systems whose main objective may not be focused on the needs of a Senco
3. Mirrors your organisation’s structure:
You choose how to group the Pupils such as Class or Tutor Group
Pupils can be flagged as belonging to a Special Unit such as a Learning Support Centre; or that they have access to some other resource
You can modify your own list of SEN Types
18 Extra Columns for which you choose the purpose – set up SEN Diary in exactly the right way needed for your school
4. Not just restricted to Pupils with Special Educational Needs
Monitor Pupils who are of ‘concern’ but not yet assigned an official SEN stage – Lo and behold, when you need to make a case for the Pupil to go onto the Register, you have already compiled very useful information
You can keep Diaries for other Pupils who are, perhaps, on the ‘At Risk’ Register
5. Demonstrate the Progress of each Pupil and the whole School
A Bar Chart showing SEN stages throughout the school year
SEN Diary – Example of Bar Chart.

Similarly for the Northern Irish CENSUS SEN Diary – Similarly for the Northern Irish CENSUS.
6. Up-to-date lists can be easily produced
Communicate with colleagues by giving them lists of the Pupils in their care with SEN SEN Diary – Communicate with colleagues by giving them lists of the Pupils in their care with SEN.
7. Publish information

8. Timed To-do list
The Interactive ‘To-Do’ List will enhance your ability to keep up to date with the management of what needs to be done – great for getting back on track after the holidays or other long absence from SEN Diary SEN Diary – The Interactive ‘To-Do’ List will enhance your ability to keep up to date with the management of what needs to be done – great for getting back on track after the holidays or other long absence from SEN Diary.
Never forget anything with SEN Diary’s built-in To-Do list of actions such as when the next IEP is due SEN Diary – Never forget anything with SEN Diary’s built-in To-Do list of actions such as when the next IEP is due.

Reminders can be made to automatically appear on ‘To Do’ lists – for example: you can be reminded that Statements need to be reviewed one or two months before they are due (you choose the interval)
9. Answer tricky questions from the LEA/Headteacher/ Colleagues – A versatile system of filtering enables you to concentrate on a subset of Pupils and print Check Lists with the answers to questions such as ‘How many Year 1 Pupils have SLCN?
You can filter on:
National-Curriculum year
Class/Tutor Group
Pupils who have left school
Special Unit
SEN Stage
SEN Type
Next IEP Action month
Include/Exclude Able
Include/Exclude Less Able

Include/Exclude Pupils Now Off Register or of No Concern
Review Month
Your own Extra Lookup Columns (it’s your choice as to how you use them)
Or any combination of the above
10. Answer questions about Pupils, however long ago:
The data for the current school year is automatically referred to but you can easily answer questions about Pupils on roll, however long ago it was
Historical data on a Pupil who has left the school can be accessed in such a way that it does not interfere with those still on roll
